James

427 James, is a historic Grand Rapids Landmark Home, originally built as the Grand Rapids Study Clubhouse, carefully preserving its architectural character while updating it for modern living. The project included a fully redesigned kitchen that opens seamlessly to the dining area, all-new bathrooms including a luxurious primary suite, updated electrical and plumbing systems, new paint throughout, and thoughtfully selected custom lighting that highlights the home’s original craftsmanship. Historic features such as the rich wood floors and trim, marble fireplace, stained-glass built-ins, oversized windows, and the dramatic winding staircase were restored and integrated into a cohesive design that balances timeless elegance with contemporary functionality. The renovation also reimagined the former reading club spaces into inviting living areas while enhancing the home with modern mechanicals, improved flow, and outdoor access, creating a warm, light-filled residence that honors its unique history.
