I wanted to see what the original windows looked like. They had been replaced with sliding windows, which threw off the Craftsman style of the house.
Sadly, the house had fallen on hard times.

Benjamin
948 Benjamin had a long way to go. It was the only condemned house we ever purchased. Prior to our purchase a tree branch had fallen on the SE corner of the house and damaged the roof. A tarp was placed over the area where it stayed for many years. Water damage in that area of the home was extensive. Most of the pipes in the basement had burst, and there was no electrical or gas hooked up to the house. However, the 102 year old house, was well built with 2x6 rafters and a steel beam in the basement. It stood the test of time well. On the positive side, it had amazing character, with well preserved coffered ceilings and beautiful original oak trim. It took some effort, but was well worth it, I think.
